CURRENT BREEDS

WE RAISE

We currently raise four different domestic small rabbit breeds.  Our rabbits are purebred and pedigreed.  We strive to develop high quality competitive rabbits.  Each of the breeds has something unique to offer.

The following is a brief description of each of the breeds we raise from Netherland Dwarfs to Holland Lops.

Netherland Dwarf

The Netherland Dwarf weighs under two and a-half pounds and is the smallest recognized domestic breed.  The Netherland Dwarf is amoung the most popular of the fancy breeds.  Its petite size makes it ideal for an indoor rabbit and popular with kids.  Netherland Dwarfs are full of energy and need to be handled often to ensure a calm personality.  Netherland Dwarf is a compact breed with a round head, bold eyes, and short ears.

We raise the following colors in Netherlands:  Blue-Eyed-White, Black, Chinchilla, Siamese Sable, Siamese Smoke Pearl, Tortoise Shell, Sable Point, Otter, Silver Marten, and Himalayan.

Dwarf Hotot

The Dwarf Hotot looks similar to the Netherland Dwarf weighing under three pounds. Dwarf Hotots are only recognized in one variety: white with black eyebands that look like eyeliner. They became a recognized breed by ARBA in 1981. Dwarf Hotots are not a common fancy breed and often difficult to find. They are also energetic little bunnies that require a lot of attention.  Dwarf Hotot is a compact breed with a bold head, dark brown eyes with well defined black eyebands, and short ears.

We raise the standard variety:  white with brown eyes and black eyebands.  We do have genetics for the blue band variety which is not ARBA recognized.

Jersey Wooley

The Jersey Wooley is the smallest wooled breed of domesticated rabbits weighing under three and a-half pounds. Jersey Wooleys were developed in the 1970s from a Netherland Dwarf and a French Angora. The breed is the easiest to care for of the angora rabbits because of its small size, shorter wool, and easy-care wool coat.  Jersey Wooleys have great personalities and make great pets.  Their small size is attractive to people who want a small indoor bunny that is easy to handle.  Usually they are very shy but calm.  Jersey Wooley is a compact breed with a short bold head having a wool cap and side trimmings, bold eyes, short ears, and a rich, dense wool coat of three inches long.  The wool on these breeds make them look bigger than they really are.

We raise the following colors in Jerseys:  Ruby-Eyed White, Blue, Black, Chocolate, Lilac, Siamese Sable, Smoke Pearl, Sable Point, Tortoise Shell, and Silver Marten.

Holland Lop

The Holland Lop is actually the smallest lop-eared breed at under four pounds as adults (except for the American Fuzzy Lop).  Holland Lops are a hybrid between the French and English Lops and Netherland Dwarfs created in Holland in the 1960s.  They were accepted by ARBA in 1980.  They look very similar to the Mini-Lop, yet they are a lot smaller in size.  Hollands are very gentle and often shy rabbits and make great pets for kids.  People love Hollands and Mini-Lops for their lopped ears.  Holland Lop is a compact breed with a bull-dog head, bright eyes, and lopped bell-shaped ears that hang no longer than one inch below the jaw line.

We raise the following colors in Hollands:  Sable Point, Tortoise, Blue, Black, Agouti, and Brokens.

FORMER BREEDS

WE'VE RAISED

Dutch

The Dutch are perhaps the oldest recognized breeds in small rabbits coming from Holland in 1864. They have a distinct pattern with a white "saddle," white face blaze, and white feet markings. Dutch weigh three to five pounds as adults and are the best "starter" rabbit for the first time breeder. They have a lot of personality and are very easy to breed and raise. They are also known for their terrific mothering capabilities. We still had the first Dutch doe that we started with and she is still producing and fostering wonderful babies.  As of Fall 2005, we no longer raise Dutch.  Dutch is a compact breed with a round head, bright eyes, stocky ears, and a distinct color pattern.

 Mini-Lop

The Mini-Lop is the largest breed we have raised.  Mini-Lops weigh four to six pounds as adults and are larger than the Holland Lops.  They are a popular breed as well because of their long lopped ears and big feet.  They are also a very shy and gentle breed and make great pets as well as great breeding stock.  Bucks genearlly make gentle loving pets or 4-H rabbits.  Even as one of the biggest in the small rabbit category, Mini-Lop is a compact breed with a large, bold head, bright eyes, and long lopped bell-shaped ears.
